It upsets me that people on a humanitarian mission can be treated like this with zero consequences for perpetrators, I’m not going to deny that I 100% disagree with the Islamic ideology, but please, EVERY human deserves to be treated with basic care and respect, to go further I am disgusted by the calls for intifada, and while that may be appropriate in the Middle East it’s not appropriate in Australia, however, I sincerely hope that this piss weak Albonese government takes strict action against the government of Israel.
Steve: Let me say here to you that having escaped the narrow fundamentalist Protestant sect that I had been raised in - and then exploring more "mainstream" versions - plus one other fundamentalist sect called Christadelphian - and an extremely racist slide night commentary from one of its pastors - that turned me away from it. It made me buy a copy of the Koran - which I still have (that was in 1968, btw) and read it. It's not an ideology - the fact is - the same characters and stories as one finds in the Bible - including Jesus and his mother Mary... and the version I read written in a style of English not unlike that of the KJV. Over the years since I have travelled in a number of countries with significant or major Muslim populations - Egypt, Turkey, Morocco, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia - to name a few - plus various Arab Emirate states - even if briefly - Israel...And here in Australia - students and colleagues and friends who are Muslim - and what strikes me most of all is their sincerity, their generosity and honesty - their charity in giving to those less fortunate - and their trustworthiness.
I get you Jim, I too live amongst people of the Muslim faith, but they were born into it, often no choice but to follow what their parents demanded, you were lucky to have a choice, we are privileged by birth I suppose, where we were born into countries that allow religious freedom, as it should be, what happens to Christians or Yazidi’s in Muslim countries? To me the significant difference is when the Country allows religious freedom, China has a dodgy record regarding the Uyghurs, The Chinese government’s sweeping campaign of "Sinicization" seeks to force all religious communities to align with Chinese Communist Party (CCP) ideology. However, multiple faiths face severe, state-sponsored persecution. While I have to agree, the majority of people, no matter their ‘religion’ or lack of it, are good people who just want to live in peace and prosperity for their families, I think you would find that’s what most Gazan’s want, the treatment that many Islamic countries dish out is not so good, Nigeria are currently slaughtering Christians in big numbers, Bangladesh is experiencing violent anti - Christian actions. May I point out that you have the right to pick up a quran and choose the passages that suit you, you are lucky. Personally, I can’t believe these religious books, the characters and stories are totally unbelievable, the Hindu scripts are so fanciful, the Buddhist scripts are born out of the Hindu, but I have to say, belief in yourself keeps the Buddhist faith in high respect from me. I should just clarify, I do believe that Islam is an ideology, and it is dangerous, yes, we could choose to ignore facts and say that most muslims are good people, but so are most people, the difference is Sharia law, the scripts that tell the jihadists to go and kill infidels, the scripts that allow sex slaves, under age marriage, it’s just so incompatible with human life, it should be banned, at least in western countries.
